Nick Dewhurst is a Jazz Trumpeter, Guitarist, Composer & Music Educator. Based in Lichfield, just north of Birmingham (UK), Nick’s musical portfolio consists of a mixture of live performance, recording and educational work.

In addition to leading his own band (see The Nick Dewhurst Band), Nick’s performance credits include playing with a wide variety of bands and artists (everything from performing with The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, through to recording with the heavy rock group Magnum).

From 2009-2013, Nick had the pleasure of studying Jazz Trumpet at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, from which he graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree. During his time at the Conservatoire, Nick studied with some of the UK’s finest Jazz musicians & teachers, as well as studying at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar as part of the Erasmus Scheme.

In addition to Nick’s studies at the Conservatoire, Nick was a member of the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO), playing both the jazz & lead trumpet chair, as well as being a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO).

In 2015, Nick formed The Nick Dewhurst Band, and since then has played regular concerts at well recognised jazz venues across the UK, recorded two albums Suspect in You’ (2016) and Skyrocket (2019), and in 2023 took the band on tour in Germany playing a variety of concerts which included playing in a 600 year-old Wine Cellar in the Mosel Valley, as well as performing in Lichfield’s twin town, Limburg an der Lahn. The ND Band blurs the lines between the worlds of Jazz, Funk & Pop, and plays original music written by members of the band, whilst enjoying playing well known covers in its own unique style too.

During the lockdown period, Nick was involved with the highly successful ‘Songs I Want to Play‘ project, recording a wide range of songs (covering great hits by the likes of Stevie Wonder & Quincy Jones, through to 10-minute medleys featuring the music of the 80s, Neo-Soul, and Michael McDonald to name a few). Across social media platforms, these videos have collectively enjoyed over 1 million views.

In 2019, some of Nick’s educational resources were published by Warwick Music in a book called ‘Fun & Funky Tunes’. Since 2024, Nick has been recording backing tracks for musicians to practise their improvisation too, which he has been publishing on his own YouTube channel.

As well as enjoying playing Trumpet & Guitar, Nick also enjoys playing a variety of other instruments too including Piano, Bass Guitar, Drums & Valve Trombone.
