Brand new for 2022, the Nick Dewhurst Quartet is Nick’s latest musical offering, and features Nick on Trumpet, Flugelhorn & Guitar, with Tim Amann on Piano, Paul Robinson on Bass Guitar and Carl Hemmingsley on Drums.
The quartet focuses on original compositions by Nick (featuring tunes from Nick’s two albums ‘Suspect in You’ and ‘Skyrocket’), as well as playing jazz standards and originals written & recorded by some of Nick’s favourite trumpet players (such as Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, Kenny Dorham, Wynton Marsalis & Nicolas Folmer).
Whilst this Quartet may be a new project for 2022, the musicians are no strangers to playing together, with Nick, Tim & Carl all having played together for many years with the Walsall Jazz Orchestra (WJO). The WJO, who specialise in original music (including some of Nick and Tim’s compositions), plays melodic & soulful jazz, with grooves taken from folk music through to funk and fusion, but mixed in with bebop and swing too. All of these musical elements have been incorporated into the new Quartet, and with the addition of one of Manchester’s finest session bass players, Paul Robinson, (who lists Jaco Pastorius as one his main influences), the net result is four musicians who very much think about music on the same wavelength.
