Here’s a list of Bands and Projects I’m involved with, some of them play regularly, and others just now and again! Some of them I play in full time, and others I play with occassionally!

  • Nick Dewhurst Band – my own Jazz/Funk/Fusion Quintet.  Featuring Callum Roxburgh (Tenor Sax), Tom Lindsay (Piano/Keys), Tom Moore (Electric and Double Bass), and Carl Hemmingsley (Drums)
  • Tritone Quintet – bringing together jazz musicians from three countries: the Netherlands, Germany and the UK. The band features Nick Dewhurst on Trumpet (UK), Callum Roxburgh on Tenor Saxophone (UK), Marius Van Den Brink on Piano (NL), Joris Bolhaar on Bass (NL), and Stefan Schneider on Drums (DE). Performing exclusively their own music, all members of Tritone have contributed compositions to the band. Based on a classic Trumpet/Tenor jazz quintet sound, Tritone’s original music takes you on a journey from classic 60s hard bop sounds, through to contemporary high-energy tunes, all contrasted by some beautifully soft ballads.
  • Nick Dewhurst’s Drummerless Quartet – a more fluid/lyrical group, with more Flugelhorn than trumpet.  Featuring Elliot Sansom (Piano), Gareth Fowler (Guitar), and Percy Pursglove (Double Bass).  You can catch this groups first outing on May 19th, at Bramall Music Building, University of Birmingham
  • Imperial Strut – drummer Dave Tandy’s Yellowjackets tribute band! Super yellowjackets tunes played by great musicians.  Featuring Callum Roxburgh (Alto/Tenor Sax), Chris Eldred (Piano), Ben Lee (Guitar), Nick Roberts (Bass Guitar), Dave Tandy (Drums)
  • Walsall Jazz Orchestra – local musicians from the Walsall area come together to play a mixture of fine contemporary bigband jazz funk and fusion.  Compositions featured from yours truly, and pianist Tim Amann!
  • Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO)  – I still just about qualify to play with MYJO – a stunning Bigband made up of some of the best young players in the Midlands. Check their website for more info.
  • Funktional – my band for commercial work as a musician! Come and see us in the quintet format (playing fun and funky covers of pop tunes, plus funky reworkings of jazz standards), or come and see us as the Funktional Jazz Trio playing softer background music.
  • Callum Roxburgh Orchestra (CRO) – An 11 piece mini-bigband that features some of the UK’s top musicians.  Callum always puts together a brilliant programme, and is a great show! Next gig is at Lichfield Blues & Jazz Festival in June 2016.
  • Mitch Perrins’ Atlantic Quintet – I’ve had the honour of joining Mitch twice now with his Atlantic Quintet. Great gigs at Birmingham Jazz & Symphony Hall Foyer playing Mitch’s original music from his Survival Suite.
  • Arabella Sprot Quintet – now not quite as active since Arabella moved to Berlin, but a great band on the occassion it’s together! Check out the album we recorded ‘Kafka’s Dance’.  Featuring Arabella Sprot (Tenor Sax), Steve Tromans (Piano), James Banner (Double Bass), Ric Yarborough (Drums)
  • Jim Wynn’s Birth Of The Cool – playing music from the classic Miles Davis record, and some other tunes inspired by the record which Jim has arranged for the 9 piece group he leads.
  • Birmingham Jazz Orchestra – a new jazz orchestra led by Scottish trumpeter Sean Gibbs.  Made up of mostly graduates of the jazz course in Birmingham, the BJO plays exciting and orginal repertoire.
